Pakistan Closes Airspace to India Amid Water Treaty Suspension Tensions

Pakistan has officially closed its airspace to Indian aircraft in response to India’s actions following a deadly attack in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. The move also comes as a reaction to India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, a water-sharing agreement in place for over 60 years.
The decision was announced by the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office following a meeting of the National Security Committee. The meeting came shortly after India claimed that the April 23 attack, which killed 26 people, was linked to cross-border elements.
Pakistan strongly warned that any attempt to cut or redirect its water supply would be considered an “act of war.”
